CulturePolis is pleased to announce the publication of new research exploring the CorfuGen model as a pathway towards regenerative rural development, economic diversification and greater resilience for Mediterranean island communities.
A paper by CulturePolis Founder and President Dr Vasileios Laopodis, with the assistance of Project Manager Zeta Theodorou, published in the Journal of Financial Intermediation, Sustainable Banking and Marketing, explores this question through the case of CorfuGen – CulturePolis’ integrated model for the regeneration of rural and coastal communities in Corfu.
Published on 17 August 2026, the paper, “From Fragile Resilience to Regenerative Economies: A Civil Society Model for Rural Regeneration, Economic Diversification, and Cost-of-Living Resilience in Mediterranean Island Communities,”examines the structural challenges facing Mediterranean islands and proposes a different approach: one that places culture, sustainability and innovation at the heart of local economic development.
CorfuGen at RESILNAT 2026
The research was also presented internationally as part of the RESILNAT virtual conference on 11 June 2026.
The conference provided an opportunity to place the CorfuGen model within a broader discussion about the future of resilient and sustainable island destinations, and to exchange ideas with researchers and practitioners working across nature, culture, tourism and regional development.
