Creative Economy and Entrepreneurship
Thematic Unit 1: Cultural and Creative Industries
Concepts – Definitions – Trends
The cultural industry and its associated creative industries represent an important asset for our country and Europe in general . Promoting “Creative Entrepreneurship” was proposed to implement the new policies and EU programmes for the next programming period 2014-2020 and has already become more specific in the Member States and their regions.
See more in the Creative Europe programme leaflet, available here.
For this purpose, there is a concentrated effort to target the smart specialization of each region by activating institutions such as universities, research centers, companies and new graduates exploring professional possibilities.
In this context, an important role is played by infrastructure / entrepreneurship stimulus mechanisms and the expected generation of income and new jobs, exploiting cultural heritage of the region and the creation of synergies between new graduates of Universities / technical institutions and specialized schools and young professionals in places where new businesses / jobs can be created by young graduates and local producers.
Providing assistance in the creation of new and innovative businesses through special reception and support infrastructure – as well as a possible aid in the financing, was the goal of the establishment of incubators. This practice has been known for 20 years, with noted sucesses mainly in the internet sector, but until recently was relatively unknown in the cultural industry in Greece, and is being implemented successfully in several countries where many good practices have been recorded.
